Body

By Anthony

Monday will be a month as a non-smoker. I have decided to throw this out into the ether, not because I want a pat on the back, but more because I can say without a doubt that I don’t ever want to go back. Putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) gives everything you do a little more permanence.

I just got back from swimming laps at the college pool. During the first week and half, I did some ocean swimming. For the last two and half weeks, I have been swimming 6 days a week. I am now swimming over a mile a day and can link 8 to 12 laps together without a break. I am getting stronger every day. Again, I say this only as I am amazed at how quickly the body can restore itself. Every day I push myself a little harder and I am able to achieve a new result.

I was given an incentive to stop. I had a real desire to change. I asked for some help and I took action. Seems pretty easy now looking back on the process. I am very grateful to be given the support and to be able to share this with others. Hopefully someone else can take something from this and move themselves forward.

I recently read that resolutions are permanent actions that are never finished. Goals on the other hand have a finite result. You can strive every day to move towards those resolutions, but they will never be perfected. The resolution of living a healthier life for yourself and the people you care about was a great start. Always looking for progress….
